Bicycle Touring

Make a weekend or day bike trip tour through the lower Eastern Shore for an unforgettable experience. Whether you are traveling singly or with a small group, you will find the back roads of this region are "user friendly."

Biking along the flat gentle roads of this area will bring you through unspoiled countryside, natural forests, historic villages and along meandering creeks giving you the opportunity to experience genuine friendliness and local charm. Flat lands, at or below sea level offer the first-time cyclist easy pedaling.

A comfortable bike with at least three gears is suitable. Biking along the Eastern Shore is a great family outdoor adventure.

Pick up a brochure or map of the View Trail 100 bike trail through Worcester County. This scenic ride follows over 100 miles of back country roads and traverses several wildlife habitats, historic towns and true Eastern Shore culture. Stop at a country store and have lunch or visit a historic home and trace the roots of this region.

Each fall, 6,000+ cyclists ride the Sea Gull Century. Named "One of the Ten Best" centuries by Biking Magazine, Salisbury State University hosts this ride which meanders country roads to Assateague Island National Seashore and back.

There are several excellent tours throughout the lower Eastern Shore counties. Another tour includes riding the back roads of Rt. 361 in Somerset County to Manokin, Fairmont, and out to Rumbley on the Bay. Another good ride is in Wicomico County, starting at Whitehaven and pedaling out to Coxs Corner on Rt 349 to Bivalve, and down to Waterview. (Bring bug spary in summer).

The wide variety of accommodations available along your bike route accent your trip. These include cozy B&Bs, motels, inns and campgrounds. Most of the small towns found along local bicycle routes also have small country stores, restrooms and phones.
