Fruitland Consultant Publishes Grant Writing Guide
Valerie J. Mann, a Grant Consultant based in Fruitland, has a book scheduled for publication with Praeger Publishers(a subsidiary of Greenwood Publishers) of Santa Barbara, California, entitled “Getting Your Share of the Pie: The Complete Guide to Finding Grants”.

The publication date is scheduled for 8/31/10. This book is a comprehensive “how to” for obtaining federal, state, and foundation funds. It discusses every step of the process and will be especially useful to the novice. It is comprehensive and gives specific resources for the reader to follow up to search for grant funds.

The work will be suitable for use as a textbook or as a guide for the administrative professional who would like to expand their capabilities into a new field. The book has been written to be a learning tool and reference book. It will contain enough useful information that it can take the place of a grant-writing course.

In regard to the demand for this work, Ms. Mann says, “There is a definite need for this book. I see on a daily basis the large number of small towns, counties, and nonprofits who are needlessly missing out on grant funds due to lack of expertise. Most small law enforcement agencies I have talked to express frustration at knowing that there are a multitude of programs to help them, but no way to access them due to lack of staff and knowledge. I hear this frustration at lack of grant writing resources on a weekly basis.

The organizations which can most benefit from this book are those that do not have the funds to hire a full-time Grant Writer. I have talked to any number of organizations which sorely need funding but cannot afford a dedicated staff person. This book will train their existing staff and leave them better equipped to find needed funds.”

Ms. Mann has worked as a Grant Writer for the past 32 years, and has owned her own consulting business for the past 25 years. She has written approximately 700 grant applications over the course of her career, with 75-80% of those applications having been successful in winning funds. Her clients include municipalities, counties, law enforcement agencies, fire departments, and non-profits.
