Coastal Hospice and Palliative Care is an agency that provides services for patients who are seriously ill and their families in Worcester, Wicomico, Somerset and Dorchester Counties. Through Coastal Hospice nurses, physicians, social workers, bereavement counselors, companions and other volunteers not only help the person who is ill but their care givers and families.

Other hospices around the country have started thrift shops to help raise funds. This seemed like a good fit for Coastal Hospice in their effort to build the resident care facility they are planning for Worcester County. The goal of Coastal Hospice is to eventually have resident hospice care facilities in all four of the counties they now serve. The Coastal Hospice Thrift Shop is located on the south side of Route 50 in Berlin a short distance west of Stephen Decatur High School.

The wider community has also stepped up to help, including the Rural Development Center and the Worcester County Economic Development Department. Coastal Hospice holds a number of events to help the bereaved as well as raise funds and awareness about their services.

The Coastal Hospice geranium sale is timed to coincide with Mother's Day. Coastal Hospice also takes part in an annual information and awareness initiative called National Healthcare Decisions Day which helps educate the public about making end of life decisions when they are still in good health.

The Coastal Hospice website provides information on all their events and ways people can volunteer or donate funds. The agency provides a wide variety of free services and materials to help support people considering hospice care. Donations are always needed to support these rewarding efforts. Maureen McNeill feels privileged to do this work.
